Club Length Guide

The right club length can make a real difference to your game. Learn how to measure yourself, compare standard lengths and find the shafts, extensions or tools for your next adjustment.

Quick answer: Put on your golf shoes, stand naturally and measure from the floor to the crease of your wrist. Right-handed golfers measure the left wrist; left-handed golfers measure the right. Compare the result with the charts below, then use the inch value when configuring a custom club. 1 inch = 2.54 cm.

Get a starting length recommendation

Enter your wrist-to-floor measurement. The result is a starting point for a fitting, not an individual measurement.

How long is a standard golf club?

Standard club length depends on the type of club, shaft material and player. For example, a standard ladies’ steel putter is 34 inches (about 87 cm), while a standard graphite driver is 45 inches (about 115 cm).

Those standard lengths are not right for every golfer. As a first reference, men with a wrist-to-floor measurement outside 89–94 cm and women outside 79–84 cm may want to compare shorter or longer club lengths. Your posture, arm length and preferred setup matter too.

Tesi Golf can build clubs to an individual length. Once you have a target length, choose the club you want and enter the required inch value in the length option on its product page.

Measure your wrist-to-floor distance

Measuring is straightforward. You will need your golf shoes and a ruler or another suitable measuring tool.

  1. Put on your golf shoes.
  2. Stand upright and relaxed on a level surface.
  3. Let your arms hang naturally. Measure from the floor to the crease of your wrist.
  4. Right-handed golfers measure the left arm. Left-handed golfers measure the right arm.
  5. Use the chart below to see whether shorter, standard or longer clubs may be a useful starting point.

For an order, note the length in inches. The club configurator uses inch values.

Standard reference: men 91.5 cm ± 2.5 cm; women 81.5 cm ± 2.5 cm. This guide is a starting point, not a substitute for a fitting.

Repairs, assembly and clubmaking tools

A club can sometimes be adjusted by replacing or extending its shaft. The extension must match the shaft material and diameter; steel and graphite shafts may require different parts. Explore the workshop sections for parts, measuring tools and assembly supplies.

Why club length matters

A suitable club length can support a balanced setup and a more repeatable strike. A club that is too long or too short may make posture, distance from the ball and clubhead control harder to manage. Shot direction also depends on swing path, face angle, dynamic lie and technique; length alone does not cure a slice or hook.

If you are unsure about the measurement or see inconsistent contact, have the club and your setup checked together. Treat the chart and calculator as a starting point.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure golf club length for my body?

Put on your golf shoes, stand relaxed and measure from the floor to the crease of your wrist. Right-handed golfers measure the left wrist; left-handed golfers measure the right. Compare your result with the reference charts above.

What is a standard 5-iron length?

In this guide, the reference length for a men’s standard steel 5-iron is 38 inches. The women’s standard steel 5-iron reference is 37 inches. Graphite and manufacturer specifications can differ.

Can I order a golf club in a custom length?

Yes. Choose a club with a length option on its product page and enter the desired length in inches. If you are unsure which length to select, arrange a fitting or ask Tesi Golf before ordering.

Can I extend an existing golf shaft?

In many cases, yes. The extension needs to match the shaft material and inside diameter. Check compatibility before installation; graphite and steel shafts may require different extenders.

Does wrist-to-floor measurement determine the exact club length?

No. It is a useful starting point, but posture, arm length, club design and personal setup also matter. Confirm the final length with a fitting or test when possible.

This guide provides general reference information. Exact club length can vary by manufacturer and measurement method. For a personal recommendation, consider the club model, shaft, posture and your feel during a fitting or test.
