GRIP SIZE & CLUBMAKING

Which Tour Velvet grip size is right for you?

Standard, midsize or jumbo don't just determine how thick the grip feels. Tape build-up, core size and the chosen Tour Velvet model also affect the final grip size.

A simple starting point

Measure your top (lead) hand from the wrist crease to the tip of your longest finger.

A Wrist crease
→
B longest finger
01 UNDERSIZE

12.7–16.5 cm

Smaller nominal grip size for correspondingly smaller hands.

smaller than standard
03 MIDSIZE

19.1–23.0 cm

More grip volume than standard for larger hands or personal preference.

more volume
04 JUMBO

over 23 cm

Very large grip volume. Not every Tour Velvet variant is available in jumbo.

Important:

Not every Tour Velvet variant is offered in every grip size. So check the available sizes directly on the product page.

Between standard and midsize?

Additional layers of tape allow finer in-between sizes without having to switch straight to a midsize grip.

BASE
Standard build-up

Classic installation with no extra build-up under the grip.

+1 WRAP
approx. +1/64"

A small change to the finished grip diameter.

+2 WRAPS
approx. +1/32"

Often worth considering if standard feels a little too thin.

CLUBMAKER KNOW-HOW

More tape doesn't just increase the diameter. The grip is stretched further and can therefore feel slightly firmer.

Two ways to more volume

TOUR VELVET PLUS4

More volume specifically under the lower hand

By design, Plus4 has a larger lower grip section, reducing the classic taper.

CUSTOM TAPE BUILD-UP

Additional layers of tape can be applied along the entire length of the grip or only in specific areas.

Plus4 is not the same as midsize.

Plus4 describes the grip profile. Midsize describes the nominal size of the grip. A Tour Velvet Plus4 can therefore be offered in standard as well as midsize, for example.

What do .580 and .600 mean?

These numbers describe the nominal inner diameter of the golf grip – not its outer size.

A standard grip can have a .580 or .600 core size, for example. What matters is the interplay between grip core, shaft diameter and tape.

Core size + Shaft butt + Tape = finished grip size

How to find your starting point

01 Measure your hand

As an initial guide to standard, midsize or jumbo.

02 Choose your grip profile

Classic or, for example, Tour Velvet Plus4.

03 Fine-tune with tape

If the standard sizes don't quite match what you want.

HOW IT WORKS

From old grip to finished Tour Velvet

Professional regripping is more than just pulling off the old grip and fitting a new one.

01

Remove the old grip

The existing grip is removed cleanly and the grip section of the shaft is exposed.

02

Prepare the shaft

Old tape and residue are removed so the new build-up can be installed cleanly.

03

Define the tape build-up

Standard build-up or extra layers for more volume and a custom fit.

04

Fit the Tour Velvet

The new grip is slid on cleanly and positioned to your specifications.

05

Check the alignment

Logo, ribbed or ALIGN grips are aligned to suit the club and setup.

Small differences in build-up can make a noticeable difference in feel

Grip model, nominal size, core size, shaft diameter and tape together determine the actual grip size.

That's why, when regripping, we look not just at the grip itself but at the entire setup.

TOUR VELVET KNOW-HOW

Golf Pride Tour Velvet: the golf grip in detail

Golf Pride Tour Velvet is one of the classic golf grips for players looking for a balanced mix of comfort, feedback and surface texture. At the same time, Tour Velvet is now an entire grip family with different sizes, profiles and technologies.

01
THE CLASSIC

What is the Golf Pride Tour Velvet?

The classic Golf Pride Tour Velvet is based on a specially formulated rubber compound and a uniform plus-sign surface texture.

The result is a golf grip that doesn't try to be especially soft, extremely tacky or aggressively textured.

It's precisely this balanced tuning that makes Tour Velvet an interesting starting point for many different players and club setups.

02
FEEL & SURFACE

How does Tour Velvet feel?

In terms of grip feel, Tour Velvet deliberately sits between very soft comfort grips and particularly firm, heavily textured performance grips.

COMFORT balanced

The rubber compound provides comfort without completely dampening feedback.

FEEDBACK moderate

You keep a clear connection to the club.

TEXTURE clearly noticeable

The plus-sign texture supports traction across the grip surface.

Grip feel remains personal.

Size, shaft diameter, tape build-up and the chosen Tour Velvet variant also change how the finished golf grip feels in your hands.

TOUR VELVET FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Golf Pride Tour Velvet

Here you'll find the key answers on Tour Velvet Classic, Plus4, 360, Cord, ALIGN, grip sizes and installation.

01
MODELS

Tour Velvet models & differences

Which Tour Velvet is right for me?

If you're looking for a classic, well-balanced golf grip, the Tour Velvet Classic is the best starting point. Plus4 offers more volume under the lower hand, 360 is particularly well suited to adjustable woods, Cord offers more texture and ALIGN adds a tactile alignment reference.

What is the difference between Tour Velvet and Tour Velvet Plus4?

Tour Velvet Classic has the classic taper profile. Tour Velvet Plus4 has a larger lower grip section and therefore less taper.

View Plus4 →
Is Tour Velvet a soft or a firm golf grip?

Tour Velvet sits in the balanced middle. It is designed neither as an ultra-soft comfort grip nor as a particularly firm specialty grip. Its feel combines comfort with moderate feedback.

Can I use Tour Velvet on my driver, irons and wedges?

Yes. Tour Velvet can generally be used on all kinds of clubs. Many players deliberately use one consistent grip model across most of their set.

02
GRIP SIZE

Standard, midsize or jumbo?

Should I play Tour Velvet in standard or midsize?

For many golfers, standard is the classic starting point. Midsize offers more grip volume. Besides hand size, you should also consider your personal grip feel and a possible tape build-up.

View sizing advice →
Is Tour Velvet available in jumbo?

The available sizes vary depending on the Tour Velvet variant. So check the specific size availability directly on the product page.

Can I build an in-between size between standard and midsize?

Yes. Additional layers of tape under the grip allow finer in-between sizes and can also be used selectively to customise the grip profile.

Does more tape also change the grip feel?

Yes. More tape enlarges the base and stretches the grip material further. As a result, the grip can feel slightly larger and firmer.

03
PLUS4

Tour Velvet Plus4

What does Plus4 mean on the Tour Velvet?

Plus4 refers to a grip profile with a larger lower grip section and reduced taper. This makes the area under the lower hand feel fuller.

Is the Tour Velvet Plus4 automatically midsize?

No. Plus4 describes the shape of the grip, not necessarily its nominal grip size. Depending on the model, a Plus4 variant can be offered in different sizes.

Can I replicate Plus4 with tape?

A similar effect can be achieved with additional tape build-up under the lower hand. However, Plus4 has the reduced taper built into the grip profile by design.

04
360

Tour Velvet 360

What is the difference between Tour Velvet and Tour Velvet 360?

Tour Velvet 360 uses a full 360° surface and design concept. This keeps the look more consistent, even with different shaft orientations.

Is Tour Velvet 360 particularly suited to drivers?

Yes, the 360 design is especially practical on adjustable drivers and fairway woods, because the look of the grip isn't tied to a single front-facing orientation.

05
CORD

Tour Velvet Cord

What does cord add to the Tour Velvet?

Cord increases surface texture and supports traction and moisture control. At the same time, a cord grip usually feels more direct and more textured.

Is Tour Velvet Cord better for sweaty hands?

Cord can offer advantages in wet conditions and with sweaty hands, because the textured surface provides extra traction.

Does Tour Velvet Cord feel firmer than Classic?

As a rule, the extra texture makes Cord feel more direct and firmer than the classic all-rubber version.

06
ALIGN

Tour Velvet ALIGN

What does ALIGN mean on the Tour Velvet?

ALIGN adds a tactile ridge to the underside of the grip. This can give your fingers an extra reference for a repeatable hand position.

Does an ALIGN grip need to be installed particularly precisely?

Yes. Because the ridge is deliberately positioned on the underside, precise alignment during installation is especially important.

Regripping service →
Does ALIGN make sense for adjustable drivers?

That depends on the adapter system used and the desired hosel setting. If an adjustment changes the grip orientation, the final setting should be fixed before installation.

07
CLUBMAKING

Core size, tape & regripping

What does .580 or .600 mean on the Tour Velvet?

.580 and .600 describe the core size, i.e. the nominal inner diameter of the golf grip. This is not the same as standard, midsize or jumbo.

What happens with a .580 grip on a .600 shaft?

The smaller core is stretched further on the larger shaft diameter. As a result, the installed grip can feel slightly larger and firmer.

How many layers of tape can you use under a Tour Velvet?

Additional layers of tape can be used to adjust grip diameter and profile. How many layers make sense depends on the desired grip size and setup.

Can Tesi Golf fit my Tour Velvet?

Yes. Tesi Golf offers professional regripping for single clubs, iron sets or complete bags. Grip size, tape build-up and alignment can all be taken into account.

Request regripping →
How long should I wait after regripping?

After a classic installation with tape and grip solvent, the grip should be allowed to dry sufficiently before the club is played.
